This is not really what I had planned for this week, but I’m trying to bounce back from a cold and catch up on schoolwork. This is a poem I wrote for school, and I figured I would go ahead and share it here, with a few related scriptures. Plus, since it is April, I can use it and say I’m honoring National Poetry Month (although, in truth, it is simply cause I had nothing else, LOL). I hope this brings a blessing to your week!
A Final Moment
By Melody Polar
Death brought his midnight cloak today.
He thought to scare this chile’.
And tho’ I knew I could not stay,
I’ve enjoyed this little while.

Amidst the trials of this life
I was happy, I was free.
No more will I see great strife,
See, Death hath come for me.
⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓
I tremble not in fear of Death,
Though his shadow loometh far.
This, my fleeting, final breath
Sendeth me soaring to a brighter star.
⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓
A whisper. “It is finished.
My child has come home.”
I follow my Gentle Shepherd
To fairer worlds unknown.

Oh Death, where is thy vict’ry?
Thy sting I did not feel.
My Savior’s arms were ‘round me;
Shall be ‘ever ‘round me still!
Below, I have listed a few passages that go along with my poem. If you can think of any other passages that would go along, please share them in the comment section below! (◠‿◠)
Psalm 23
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil:
For Thou art with me;
Thy rod and Thy staff
They comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
Thou anointest my head with oil;
My cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life:
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.1
1 Corinthians 15:54-57
When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written:
“Death is swallowed up in victory.”
“O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?”
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.2
Psalm 27:1
The Lord is my light and my salvation;
Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the defense of my life;
Whom shall I dread?3
John 10:11, 14-15
I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep . . . . I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.4
I hope this post brings light and peace into your life today. God bless y’all!
