Well, this month I put a bit of a constraint on what I was going to post when I sent out the newsletter. I wrote that I would be focusing on thankfulness in my posts throughout the month. And, of course, the most important thing we as Christians have to be thankful for is the Salvation given to us through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ our Savior!
This devotional will be a little different than other ones. It will add very little commentary. Instead of focusing on what I have to say, I invite you to reflect on your own testimony and thankfulness to God as you scroll through the scriptures and song which I share with you below.
I’ve sung this old chorus a lot in my life! This simple chorus — in this version sung by Calvin Newton — reminds us to be thankful for our Salvation! Thank You, Jesus, for the Salvation You have given to us!
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.”
— John 3:16-17 KJV
“For by grace are ye saved by through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is a gift of God; not of works, lest any man should boast.”
— Ephesians 2:8-9
“But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.”
— Romans 5:8-11
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”
— Romans 8:1
“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.”
— Isaiah 53:5
“For whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved.”
— Romans 10:13
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth my word, and believeth on Him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
— John 5:24
For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and wordly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world; looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ; who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.”
— Titus 2:11-14
There are a lot of good verses on this topic — so many, in fact, that I do not have the space in this post to share them with you! If there is a particular verse on the topic of salvation that I did not share, but wish I had, please feel free to share it in the comments below!
Let’s Pray:
Dear Jesus,
What is there for us to say in thankfulness to You? We do not deserve Your salvation, Your grace, Your sacrifice; yet You have freely offered them all to us! What a wonder it is to know that the Creator of this Universe loved us so much that He would die on a cross to redeem us! Let us never lose our wonder and awe at Your work. Thank You, Jesus!
Amen
