Proverbs 31:30

My mom has been trying to convince me to find a theme verse for the blog, and I have been searching for one. I didn't pick one right away because there are a lot of great verses in the Bible, and it's really hard to pick just one. But I was looking through verses I had highlighted on one of my Bible apps and came across this verse, and the words just stood out to me. So, today's verse of the week post is also gonna be an explanatory post on why I chose this verse to be the theme verse for the blog.
How This Verse Applies To Us:
Women seem to have a have a habit of trying their best to be as beautiful as possible. And I'm not gonna call anybody out on that, because I've been guilty of it in the past and probably will be again in the future. But it is a fact that we as women tend to focus a great deal on how we look. Maybe it's because of the peer pressure we are bombarded with through the Internet, TV, and our friends, or maybe it's not. I don't know. But I do know that we tend to obsess way too much over our looks.
You see, according to this verse, our beauty and charm is fleeting, and deep down inside, I think we all know this to be true. Maybe that's why we jump on the bandwagon to try each new face cream or cleanser that comes along. But even if our beauty here on Earth lasted for eternity, would it really matter once we got to Heaven? Of course not! No matter how beautiful you are or imagine yourself to be, in Heaven your beauty will be far outshined by the beauty of the glory of God!
What will matter in Heaven, though, is our relationship with the Lord. That relationship is something that will indeed last forever! Hopefully, this is something you are cultivating daily, and if it is, then good for you!
One More Thing:
I want you take a good look at the verse and then rate the subjects in the verse — charm, beauty, the Lord — in order of how much time you spend on them. Think about it for a second...do you spend more time worrying about your looks than you do spending time with the Lord? If so, then it's time for you to do a priority check. There's nothing wrong with wearing make-up and using face creams and cleansers, but if using them is getting in the way of your relationship with Jesus, it's time to back off. God is far more important than how you look. Besides, God made you perfect, and He loves you just the way He made you!
So Why Is This The Theme Verse?
Because hopefully this blog will help you to grow in your relationship with Jesus! I want this blog to encourage you in your walk with the Lord! As young women of Christ, we are each unique and beautiful "roses" in this thorny world. My prayer for you is that the devotionals posted here will help your relationship with the Lord to grow more beautiful.
Let's Pray:
Dear Lord,
Thank You for creating me to be a unique person in You! Help me to remember to not let my looks — or anything else for that matter — get in the way of my relationship with You. Please help me to grow closer to You each and every day. Draw me nearer, Lord, to You.
In your Son's Beautiful Name I pray,
Amen
