In the journey we call life, we often get sidetracked by the little trails we think are best. We follow our heart — our own understanding — because that is what the world has taught us. At first, our ideas seem best! The path seems easy and the future seems great!
But ever so slowly, we learn that our way isn't the best. We learn that following our heart often leads us down the path with the dead end, the path that takes us in circles, and the path that leads off a cliff. That is when we finally buckle and submit to God. We call out for His guidance and wisdom in helping us move forward in our journey.
It's time we learned to ignore the little trails that our heart want us to follow and ask for God's guidance in the first place. It would certainly save us a whole lot of trouble, wasted time, and pain. It's time we submit to His guidance instead of the deceitful guidance of our own hearts.
That doesn't mean the journey will be easy. No, the path God takes us on isn't the easy way. But it is the way that continues on toward the calling He has for us. It is the path on which the Light of Life guides us. And it is the path that leads to eternity in Heaven with Him.
Let's Pray:
Dear Father,
Too often I lose sight of where You want me to go. I get distracted by the desires of my own heart and set out on my own. But every time, Lord, I find that my way leads to a dead end. So Abba, now I come to You for guidance. I confess my shortcomings, my distraction, my rebellion and ask that You would take over my life, Father. Give me the wisdom I need to follow the path You have for me. Lord, show me what You have planned for my life, and help me to follow You, putting aside the distractions of my heart.
In Jesus' Name I pray,
Amen
