Stop scrolling.
Pause and take a minute away from the hustle of your day.
Sit.
Be still.
And open up your heart, mind, and soul to the Lord.
In today’s day and age, it seems like we’re always rushing. Rushing through work. Rushing through meals. Rushing through minute, everyday tasks. We have to rush and make sure we get everything done.
But have you stopped to do the most important thing?
Have you stilled yourself and drawn near to God? Have you opened up your heart to Him in prayer? Have you devoured the Word He has so freely given us? Have you raised your voice in worship?
It is easy to get distracted by the hustle and bustle of everyday life, but we cannot allow it to take us away from our Lord.
He tells us to “Be still and know that [He] is God.” (Psalm 46:11 NIV)
He tells us to “Draw near to [Him], and He will draw near to you.” (James 4:8 ESV)
But how often do we actually do this?
We have the greatest privilege ever — to commune and fellowship with God Almighty — yet we are so easily distracted by the things of this world!
So let me remind you today to follow the example of Mary, the sister of Martha. Be still in the presence of the Living God. Come and sit at His feet. And let Him teach you His ways!
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
— Matthew 6:33 KJV
Let’s Pray:
Dear Heavenly Father,
What gifts You have bestowed upon us! You have given us Your very Word in the Bible, and You have allowed us the privilege to come before You in prayer. How awesome You are, and loving to us, Your children! Let us not be distracted by earthly things. Calm us and let us draw near to You. Refine our hearts to be a mirror of You, reflecting Your love to a lost and dying world. Thank You, Father!
In Jesus’ Name we pray,
Amen

I have been meditating lately on Mary and Martha. Naturally, I favor Martha's personality. Goal-oriented, keeping busy. But I am working on learning from Mary - the one who stopped, listened, and learned. The one who found the Good Portion that was not taken away.
I enjoy your short devotionals, Melody. They remind me of what I write with a personal story usually woven in. I like how you say a prayer at the end too! 💕
